Alanya, Turkey - We've got it covered

The famous Alanya Castle, Dim Cayi, Damlatas Caves, long beaches, sun, clean water and places of beauty make a holiday spent in Alanya an unforgettable experience. From early morning until the afternoon you can sunbathe on the beaches, swim in the sea, or you can cool down and do some shopping. In the evening until late into the night you can enjoy yourself in the numerous bars restaurants and cafes. As well as the historcal sites and naturel beauties of Alanya there are also many sporting activities which will entice you away from the beach. Major international sporting events take place in Alanya, beach volley, street basketball and the triathlon are just a few. There is an abundance of things to do, from the usual, surfing, parasailing, jet skiing activities on the Alanya beaches, to jeep safaris into the Taurus mountains, night safaris, boat trips along the coast, wonderful waterfalls, caves and historical ruins.

Night clubs, bars, restaurants and live music clubs are offering an exciting array of night life. The Dim Cay river valley in the north of Alanya is a must see, a popular location for both tourists and the local Turkish. In the hot summer months, you can spend the whole day relaxing in many of the restaurants along the river, with shaded shelters. You can swim in the ice cold river water and eat delicious fresh mountain fish. A few minutes drive from Dim Cay is the Dim Dam with outstanding views, another must see.

Alanya is often referred to as the ‘’Turkish Riviera’’ nestled between the sea and the magnificent Taurus mountans, Alanya has become one of the best known resorts in Turkey and is the shinning star of the Mediterranean. The town has a population of around 250,000 and swells in the summer season with the arrival of visitors of all nationalities. Alanya is an all-seasons resort and it’s true that, with sunshine for much of the year, there is a constant holiday atmosphere. There are around 10,000 foreigners who have made Alanya their permanent home and some 17,000 own property in the area.

Alanya is linked to the city of Antalya by the D400 highway, which runs along the coast. There are two main roads that cut through the city, close to which are clustered work places, shopping centres, banks and entertainment venues. If you live in Alanya, getting about is easy, as everywhere is within walking distance. For journeys out of town, small buses called ‘dolmush’ (dolmus), are very reasonably priced, and operate a convenient ‘jump on where you like/jump off where you like’ policy on all routes.
Two airports service the Alanya area, Antalya International Airport around 1 hour, 10 minutes drive away and the new Gazipasa airport to the east with a transfer time into central Alanya of only 20 minutes. The new local airport is transforming the area, with more and more tourists and property buyers coming.

Alanya is divided into districts each with its own distinctive style, Oba and Mahmutlar are popular areas for foreigners to buy property, Mahmutlar offering the best value for money and you can still find some good affordable apartments on offer. Kargicak, Bektas and the Tepe are mostly villa areas offering some of the more expensive property, with magnificent views. There is literally all kinds of property in Alanya to suit all budgets, prices in the last 18 months have risen and are continuing to do so, this is really the year to buy. New areas are starting to be developed, Demirtas in the east and Gazipasa everything from land, new developments and villas are starting to be built and literally sold out before they are completed.

Some of the best weather is found in the Antalya region and Alanya has the longest ‘’summer’’ season of all the resorts in Turkey. It is still possible to swim in the sea in November. Summers are hot and winters are short and mild, with most of the rain at this time.

Alanya is a very cosmopolitan area ‘’open’’ twelve months of the year, which is very popular with Europeans buyers, especially the Scandinavians, Germans and Dutch. The British are still a minority but are slowly starting to discover Alanya. If you are looking for a resort that has everything and yet still remains typically Turkish then this is a great place to buy property and one of the best for retiring to.

The Alanya area is shielded from the northerly winds by the Taurus mountains and has a sub tropical, Mediterraean climate, this is the only area in Turkey that bananas grow. Summers are long hot and dry and winters mild and rainy. Around 300 days of the year are sunny with over 3000 hours of sunlight per year. The mean sea temperature ranges between 16c ( 61F) in the winter and 27C ( 81F) in the summer. Average temperatures in july are 34C and average temperatures in December are 18C
